voluntary self-exclusion programs

Venues with Slot Machines, Commercial Bingo and PlayNow

BCLC has established three different Voluntary Self-Exclusion programs that allow people to exclude themselves from gaming venues or from gambling on PlayNow. One option is to self-exclude from all venues with slot machines including casinos, community gaming centres with slot machines and the gaming floor of race tracks with slot machines. The second option is to self-exclude from commercial bingo halls and the third option is to self-exclude from the PlayNow site. You are able to sign up for one or all of these programs at your discretion. If you choose to do so you need to do so separately as they are three individual programs.

The Voluntary Self-Exclusion Program is designed for people who feel it is in their best interests not to participate in gambling.

By completing and submitting a Voluntary Self-Exclusion form you are choosing to be refused access to either all venues with slot machines in BC or all commercial bingo halls in BC or from playing on PlayNow, depending on which Voluntary Self-Exclusion program you have decided to participate in.

How does the venue based Voluntary Self-Exclusion Program work?
You can fill out an application form and/or get information from security staff at any venue with slot machines or commercial bingo halls or at one of the British Columbia Lottery Corporation offices in Richmond or Kamloops. Be sure to bring government-issued identification that includes your signature and a photograph. This could be a driver's licence, a passport, or BC identification.

You decide if you would like to be excluded for either: 6 months, 1 year, 2 years or 3 years. The exclusion begins as soon as you sign the Voluntary Self-Exclusion Form and the contract cannot be revoked.

BCLC understands that this may be a difficult decision and the process will be handled in a discreet, respectful and courteous manner.
What happens once I'm on the list?
When someone chooses to be self-excluded their information is given to security offices in all venues related to the program you signed up for.

For the PlayNow site, once you have completed the online form, BCLC will cancel your Player Account, close your Wallet and pay out any unredeemed PlayerCash therein. This is done to help you honour the commitment you've made.

You and other members of your household will also be removed from direct marketing lists and will not receive communications such as coupons and promotional items.
What happens if I try to enter a venue with slot machines or commercial bingo halls?
If you are attempting to enter a venue while you are self-excluded and are spotted by security gaming personnel, you will be refused admittance and/or escorted out of the venue. According to the Gaming Control Act (BC) you may be liable for a $5,000 fine for violating your self-exclusion contract. While BCLC understands that it may be a difficult decision to enter into a self-exclusion contract, it is your responsibility to honour the commitment you made to yourself.
What happens if I try to log onto PlayNow?
You will not be able to login to your Player Account as once you have self-excluded your Player Account will be cancelled. You may also call Consumer Services for assistance at 1-866-815-0222.
Can I exclude a spouse or family member?
No. This is a voluntary program and each person is responsible for making the choice to self-exclude. Enlisting in the program is entirely voluntary and must be done by the person seeking exclusion.
