BCLC is one of the first lottery jurisdictions in the world to have Customer Display Monitors, the player-facing screens that display validation and purchase information, including how much has been won, at every lottery outlet in the province.

BCLC is committed to ensuring our lottery systems meet the highest levels of testing for security and integrity. Some of the upgrades BCLC has made at the lottery terminal are:

• the musical winning jingle is set at the maximum volume and plays longer;
• Customer Display Monitors are locked into a fixed position;
• purchase and validation information stays on the screen for a longer period of time to make certain the player has an opportunity to view the transaction;
• a universal win symbol ($) is now displayed along with the word "Winner" and the winning amount;
• the lottery terminal freezes when a prize $10,000 or greater has been validated;
• if the Customer Display Monitor were to fail to function, sales at the retail location are temporarily suspended until BCLC has inspected and repaired the equipment.

When you check your ticket at a lottery retail location and you win a major prize of $10,000 or greater, the retailer’s lottery terminal will play a unique winning jingle and the terminal will temporarily “freeze.”  A BCLC representative will contact the store immediately and ask to speak with you directly to confirm your win, obtain important information about your ticket and explain what to do next. Then the BCLC representative will reactivate the terminal.

Lottery retailers pay prizes up to and including $200 on all lotteries and may, at their discretion, pay prizes up to $999.99. Prizes under $10,000 may be claimed at BCLC Prize Payout Offices in Richmond or Kamloops, at one of five Regional Prize Payout Centres or by mail.
