BCLC recognized as one of B.C.’s Top 50 Employers!

BC's Top 40 Employers

BCLC is proud to have been recognized for the third consecutive year as one of B.C.’s Top 50 Employers for 2009. Read the media release.

Mediacorp is Canada’s largest publisher of employment-related periodicals including Who’s Hiring and Maclean’s Top 100 Employers in Canada.

Mediacorp has eight criteria employers must meet in order to be ranked and recognized as a Top Employer in B.C. The categories include: physical workplace, social atmosphere, health and benefits, vacation time, employee communication and performance management, training and development, and community involvement.

Here’s how we’re making BCLC a top choice for employees:

Physical workplace

BCLC excelled in this category for several reasons: the proximity of our office locations to amenities such as daycare and fitness centres; open work stations; onsite lunch options such as the All Seasons cafeteria; and fitness facilities which include the basketball court in Kamloops and gym in both corporate offices.

Social Atmosphere

From Halloween costume contests to Easter Egg Hunts, Christmas lunches, exciting product launches and celebrations, to United Way Karaoke events, it seems that BCLC employees know how to share a few laughs and show off our BCLC spirit.

Health Benefits

In the category of health benefits, BCLC offers employees a comprehensive flexible-benefit program, where employees have the opportunity to select the coverage that best suits their needs. In addition, BCLC has partnered with Great West Life to provide medical and dental coverage to employees.

Financial Benefits

In order to attract and retain talented employees, BCLC offers competitive compensation programs that match or rival those offered by other companies throughout the province. Our Performance Bonus Program allows staff to earn a yearly bonus based upon individual achievements and corporate financial results.

Vacation Time

Unlike many employers that only offer two weeks after one year of employment, BCLC staff earn three to four weeks. Staff can also take days off as time accumulates; in other words, you don’t need to work here for a full year before taking a few days off.

Other Benefits

BCLC also provides Family Friendly Benefits which include maternity, parental and compassionate leave. Additionally, employees who may need to take a leave of absence are covered from 85 to 100 per cent for a set period of time.

Internal Communication

Employee communication and performance management is a category that recognizes the importance of open employee communication. With the help of YAK (Your Access to Knowledge) our internal intranet site, we are able to recognize, understand and communicate openly and in a timely manner with employees.

Educational and Professional Development

According to the Mediacorp’s standards, a good employer provides its employees an opportunity to develop their education or professional skills. BCLC supports employees by providing them with subsidies for tuition and professional association membership and in-house training programs that support both personal and career development.

Community Involvement

For over 20 years, BCLC has taken pride in being an active supporter of our local communities by offering support through financial sponsorships and staff volunteers at over 90 community events. BCLC’s Christmas Charity Committee and United Way Committee are further involved in supporting families throughout the community.
