87-year-old 6/49 winner wants an iPhone
August 28, 2009, Richmond, B.C. – B.C.'s newest millionaire, 87-year-old William Denhoff was surfing the internet when he decided to check his lottery ticket numbers online at www.bclc.com. To his surprise, he discovered that he had won a whopping $3,809,658 on the August 19, 2009 Lotto 6/49 draw.
"I still can't believe it is true, it is totally unbelievable," said Denhoff. "I have been playing the same set of numbers since 1982, when Lotto 6/49 was launched."
Denhoff says his "lucky" numbers, consisting mostly of family member's birthdays, had not brought him much luck over the past 27 years. Until now, his largest win was $5.
Upon learning of his big win, an excited Denhoff ignored the fact that it was nearly midnight and called his daughter to share the good news. "I don't care if I have woken you or not; I won the 6/49!" said Denhoff.
After receiving his cheque, the computer-savvy senior told lottery staff his first stop would be to pick up an iPhone! Denhoff is also planning a trip to London and Paris.
Lotto 6/49 is the nationwide lottery game drawn on Wednesdays and Saturdays after 6 p.m. (PST). Players can purchase tickets at any lottery retailer or at PlayNow on www.bclc.com.
