BC winners claim prize from second-largest 6/49 jackpot

BC winners claim prize from second-largest 6/49 jackpot Richmond, B.C., February 26, 2009 – Two of three British Columbians who won a share of last Saturday's record Lotto 6/49 jackpot have claimed prizes of almost a quarter-million dollars.

Howard Reid of Nanaimo and Lydia Glas of Maple Ridge visited BCLC's Richmond office this week to collect cheques for $224,863.70. Each winner matched five-out-of-six numbers plus the bonus number on the February 21, 2009 draw.

Reid who purchased his ticket from the Mid Island Co-op Gas Bar in Brooks Landing, couldn't believe his luck. "I never thought that I would win this much money," said the 61-year-old retiree. "People have been shaking my hand and saying congratulations!" When asked what he plans to do with his winnings Reid replied, "I'm going to give a bunch to my kids and grandkids, and the rest I am going to enjoy myself."

Glas, who purchased her winning ticket from the Shell gas station on Lougheed Highway in Maple Ridge, was wide awake after checking her ticket online. "I checked bclc.com for the winning numbers. When I saw that I had matched five plus the bonus, I screamed!" said the 62-year-old grain handler. "I was so excited. I couldn't sleep." After getting some rest, Glas now plans to travel the world.

Meanwhile, a third ticket matching five of six numbers plus the bonus, worth $224,863.70, was purchased in Burnaby. The lucky winner has yet to come forward; however, players have up to a year to claim their prize.

Lotto 6/49 is the nationwide lottery game drawn on Wednesdays and Saturdays after 6 p.m. (PST). This Saturday's jackpot is an estimated $10 million. Players can purchase tickets at any lottery retailer or at PlayNow on bclc.com.
