Birthdates key to group's sweet Super 7 win
Richmond, B.C., February 16, 2009 – Determining the "lucky" number for a group of Richmond care home workers might be easier said than done.
It could be '12', for the dozen co-workers who staff the dayshift at Fraserview Intermediate Care Lodge.
Maybe it is '6' or '7', as the quick pick Lotto Super 7 group ticket the group purchased for the February 6, 2009 draw matched 6 out of 7 and the bonus number.
Or perhaps it is $37,663, which is what their winning ticket was worth?
The answer is "none of the above," according to group trustee Lalita Rama, who received the winner's cheque for $37,663 this week on behalf of the group.
"We each played our birthdates," proclaimed the 47-year-old Richmond woman. "We've been doing that for three years now, but the most we had ever won was $1,000 on the Extra."
Rama says a table for 12 at a local restaurant will be the group's first order of business, as they plan to celebrate their winning ticket, which was purchased at the Petro-Canada at Williams and #3 Road.
Meantime, news of the dayshift crew's big win has sparked a workplace rivalry, with the nightshift crew getting in on the action by starting its own group play.
Early bird Rama has two words of encouragement for her nocturnal co-workers.
"Good luck!"
