Canada Represented at World Series of Mahjong Tournament

Canada Represented at World Series of Mahjong Tournament Richmond, B.C., October 17, 2008 - Jim Kwong, the winner of the second annual River Rock Mahjong Charity Open, placed 246th out of 302 participants at the 2008 World Series of Mahjong tournament in Macau, China from September 19 – 21, 2008. Participants came from more than 15 different countries to test their skill and luck to win the top prize of US $500,000!

Kwong's comments on the event were very positive. "It was a world class game and world class event," said Kwong. "It was a privilege to participate in the game and play at that level."

Kwong played during the first two days of the event before being knocked out by players from Japan, Australia, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

The River Rock Mahjong Charity Open took place earlier this year in July 2008 in Richmond, BC. This is the first year a seat to the World Series of Mahjong tournament was offered as a top prize.

Through this annual event, River Rock Casino Resort has donated more than $10,000 to support local charitable organizations in the Richmond community. River Rock Casino Resort and BCLC are very pleased about the success and increasing popularity of the tournaments and look forward to more opportunities to give back to the community.
